Hello everyone! We have a bit of news, some event information for the log that will get posted on this Saturday, and general state of the game. Your input is very important to us, so let us know your thoughts below!

ACTIVITY CHECK
We are still a tiny game, so to make things easier for everyone due to the amount of players, we've decided to lower the AC requirements indefinately to 10 comments if you name a top post, and 15 if you do not. You will still need post in two different posts to make Activity Check as usual.
Calendar
The Event Calendar is here as always but here are the dates to keep in mind:

July 8: EVENT: Awakening/Bite Down the Apple: Note: Delayed a day and a half due to RL situations.
The Awakening Event, with details found below.As a note, the event will take place on July 7th (you will see why below).
July 21: EVENT: Apple Orchard: The team can finally meet Luci who tells them more about their mission onward (and maybe gets punched in the face by Guts, tbd)
July 23: Test Drive Opens
July 29: Reserves Open
August 1: Activity Check Begins

The weather will be warn for most of this month, even during the rainy days.
The Awakening
As you might have guessed, the Awakening this time will be a little more brutal than the first one.

The group of Rebels has caught the attention of...something, and they were able hack into Luci's own virus to display a warning. In terms of OOC game play, this will be the game's first Boss Fight, and the first time characters will be able to combine their spells together. The Velvet Room will appearing in a vision during the battle (which will be in one of the log's prompt). Afterwards, characters will be able to combine their spells for the rest of the game's duration and be permanently unlocked.

While the log itself will be posted on the 8th, the events will take place on the 7th, a day earlier than what was the supposedly planned Awakening. However, the Shadows this time will not be going against a random family, but against the near-Awakened characters. This will mean two things; one, that the already Awakened characters must protect the others before they are killed, and two, that the new characters will be able to Awakened during this time and help out with the mass of shadows once they combine to form the larger monster.

There will be no signups for the Boss fight, as it will be split into a few parts that players are encouraged to fight against the monster in teams. During the entire log, Navigators will be very important, so let us know below if you play one.

Plot Submission & Causing Mischief
Due to the rough Awakening, the countdown system Luci had been using will be discarded.

After this one, players will be able to aid Luci more directly in giving other players memories and aiding them to Awaken (for better and for worse). Their actions will shape the city and force it to warp and change more as well, which is why we now have a Plot Submission and Mischief page.

This will allow players to shape and change Eddan's political, visual and world due to their actions. While Plot submissions are the typical fair (and we'd love for you to suggest some to us, especially once more of the game's plot comes out with this Awakening), the causing mischief is especially useful to let us know what your characters has been doing. Certain types of mischief might even make it into the news, or cause a reaction from the populace, so it's important to let us know!

If you want to keep this part a surprise to yourself, skip to the next section below, as it will be revealed IC during the Awakening log, however for those who wish to plan ahead, we will explain the 'missing' section of the game's lore a little more.

When characters fight at night, they are thrown into a world between that is essentially the collective Dream of all of Eddan's populace. Luci calls it the Collective Dream because it's the easiest way to get people to understand it.

However, for some reason currently unknown, Shadows now dwell in this Dream Collective and are able to change it, effectively causing people to get killed. And as characters will soon realize, whatever happens in this Dream Collective will become reality if the Shadows are not killed that night. Moreover, the weird Firemen will come and 'fix' the scene so that the regular populace has no idea what happened.

By itself, this Collective Dream is actually not harmful at all, and is a natural state of mind for most humans. In fact, can be a useful tool for training as characters Awaken to their stronger powers and are able to influence it more, much like Lucid Dreaming.

As the game goes on, they will be able to recall places from their own homeworlds and others will be able to join them in their Dreams. Luci will also be able to teach them an important skill, where they will be able to 'turn off' their real self and let their mind go on autopilot during the day while they Daydream - essentially spending the day dreaming, while your body goes on by itself doing it's tasks as if it wasn't awakened. However, Day and Lucid Dreamers beware - Shadows may lurk around if they aren't careful, and take forms that are familiar to thems...

So what does this mean for the characters? Why is Luci involved? Why is Eddan like it is? Those are more mysteries they'll need to unravel.

HR Requests, Shopping Channel, Night Dungeon
Starting later this month month, the HR requests will be available! They will have both IC and OOC requests (for example, 'bring coffee to the Velvet Room' and 'Tag a new player'). Rewards will be given as Persona upgrades, weapon upgrades, money and additional knowledge of how to control the Dream Collective.

Players who filled out a full AC during the first month, will get a free upgrade from the Velvet Room as thanks, and new players who filled out a full AC in the 2nd month will also get a special bonus (that is slightly different). These will be noted during the Requests opening!

The shopping channel will also open at August 1st at Midnight! Each month, characters will be able to pick between two options. The items will be useful for healing characters or boosting them during a fighting log. One item per month!

Finally, once the ??? part of the game is opened up, characters will be able to go into Night Dungeons and try to stop the Shadows before more people are killed and the Firemen show up. There will be some generic ones, however players are encouraged to come up with their own (and submit them to us) from a twisted version of their world.
Game feedback
As we said above, we've a very tiny game. We'd love to have more players but we need your suggestions as to how the game could be improved. There's still a lot to go and it's with your help that we'll get there!

It says in the FAQ that Awakening is "interesting" for a dead character. Given Yui is dead in-canon, what would that entail?

I'm glad to hear that both a full DW backup and navigation revamp are coming soon! It's been pretty frustrating to have half the links on, say, the mod journal lead off-site, especially when a lot of the site-specific links are still dead. I don't know if this is going to be included in the navigation redo, but I think it would be great if we could access the other comms from all the other comms, be that in the layout or just from a nav bar on the profiles; it's a small inconvenience to not be able to just click through to the other comms on applenet, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention it.

Also! Slightly more important suggestion now, haha. It would be really fantastic if there was a page dedicated to describing the city a little more in-depth. Currently we only have pages talking about the general layout (tech levels, currency, etc) and the school - but that's hardly the entirety of the city. I know at least one other player has mentioned wishing we knew a little more about the various locations, since that would make it much easier and more fun to interact with the setting and put together more interesting top levels.

For example, the solstice festival log took place in Point-a-Tarte, but because there's been no description of that part of town (aside from a single answer buried in the FAQs saying people have picnics there) it was difficult to interact particularly deeply with given the generic mingle setting. It doesn't have to be complex city maps or huge business directories - just enough to give us a sense of the area, some important landmarks, stuff that really sets it apart from other parts of town.

And speaking of the FAQ, it might be useful to have a place where the previously asked questions are listed and linked? Since Recursion's a semi-AU game there's going to be a lot of questions asked that'll end up being relevant to a large number of people, and as the game grows it'll be difficult to wade through pages of FAQ questions just to check if they've already been answered. I almost missed the little blurb about the city areas, for example!

Also (I'm so sorry, I just keep going ghfk) would it be possible to link some of the player-made gdocs detailing setting-specific things somewhere in the official pages? Things like the tower game and such. I see that they appear to be linked every time in the welcome ooc post, but it'd be nice for prospective players to get a better sense of the ic 'flavor' of the game as well as make for easy access for players in the future, rather than having to dig around the ooc comm.

Yo, so Genda is first and foremost going to be worried about his fellow penguins, and then when it gets realized just exactly who is being targeted this time by the shadows his first priority is going to be in finding Fubuki. (Sakka woof fellowship and all that.) Of course that doesn't mean I'm not down for any other shenanigans before or after those meet ups. Especially pre-boss fight as Genda is going to be travelling by foot and by subway, maybe even both depending on how things go down in the log regarding locations and what brought this about.

For those playing the meta game at home, Genda is a Phys/Fire Combatant with Healer style and Defensive passive; he uses Gauntlets for close range and throwing knives for his long range though he's more then happy to just play a support role if need be.


He also is likely to ignore anyone trying to order him about if they are A) a complete and utter stranger B) giving idiotic orders C) Both or D) He's hyperfocus on getting to his fellow sakkas when someone else is trying to pull his attention. So if you want to play with that as well it's an option though it likely will be an abrupt ending thread as Genda will just leave if the confrontation is taking too long. While his main focus will be his canonmates that won't mean he'll ignore other Unawaken if they really need help or if another one from the first wave need him for a moment to help destroy an obstacle.

I WANT GUTS TO BE IN THE PENGUIN PARTY THIS ROUND PLEASE ALL MY OLD PARTNERS DROPPED.

For real tho. While Guts is seriously considering leaving Eddan all together because hes a loner type and has no interest in saving people he doesn't know...he does know Fubuki rather well and would definatly Get Involved if he was in danger, not to mention not letting a bunch of other kids run amuck alone.

On the meta side: Guts is a pretty heavy damage dealer type whose more irritating ability is making Every Hit Go To Him and thus giving other ppl a damage reprieve. Support would be nice but he does have a minor healing spell of his own to Survive With.

Adopt these kids Guts, continue the moral debate of killing things while killing things with Kidou.


But no really, despite moral dissonance between these kids and Guts there's no denying Guts has the experience needed for a fight. Which while these kids are good at tactics and surveying a field, they only had the last fight (for the penguins at least) that can constitute as any actual experience so Genda at least would follow Guts lead if it seemed tactically sound.

Anyone need explosions? ... Or something of that nature, Makoto is a Phys/Nuke Combatant. He's got a Protector subset with the ever useful Wall and Unbreakable Tie setups, and has defensive passives. Odds are he'll start out with Chikusa at least, but then branch out to whoever needs him.

... He's a Kamen Rider so expect a lot of suddenly jumping in front of people, kicking, etc. It just kind of goes with the territory.

Yeah don't worry about Guts and fighting. If you pump him with healing spells and a basic plan he'll hammer at that boss until all his limbs r gone.

So, I have an Unawakened Combatant here and before his Awakening, he will end up being chased by some Shadows or trying to find his loved ones like his nephew. So he might be defenseless at that time since his makeshift weapon (which is just a taser) is obviously useless.

As for post-Awakening, Sycamore is a complete noob at fighting (since he's a Pokemon Professor/Trainer), which he has amateur skills in sword fighting and archery. So I was hoping that any character should help or teach him to fight to help him survive the night.

Stat-wise, Professor Sycamore is a Psy/Light Combatant with a Buffer subset along with his Heartful Cry to boost his party's Attack and Speed. He will fight with a sword as his melee weapon and bow and arrows as his ranged weapon.

Just hit me up if you want to plot or party up with the Pokemon Professor.

Jaune, as an Awakened, will be pretty quick to head out and help. So far my only concrete plan is that he is heading for Kei's (Taro's) place because ICly he is 95% sure Kei is unAwakened and so he has to go help his friend. If anyone wants to be snagged to help in that, I'm sure that would be fine--but let's plan it here.

FYI Jaune is a combatant with Physical/Light combo and Protector style--so he has some healing spells ready.

Also, just so you know, I may be scarce this weekend due to a previous engagement (ie going to a con) so tags will be from my phone if I can manage it.

Not sure on how it would go down or when, since things like location and circumstances are a bit up in the air as to what is going to be thrown at them completely during this entire thing, but considering how often they've run into one another these past two months I wouldn't mind a small team up thread if it can worked in.

I'm keeping it tentative due to not knowing all the details and such, but if ailments are being thrown around Genda has cleansing skills for that if needed as well as as many medical supplies he can get away with for post battle stuff.
